YouTube plans to redesign its TV app and add more content from third-party streamers.
According to The Information, the update could arrive in the next few months and make YouTube’s homepage look more like Netflix.
YouTube began offering content from third-party streamers through its Primetime Channels program in 2022. Users can pay for add-ons like Paramount+ and Max and access their shows and movies from within YouTube.
The idea has been to serve as a single platform for content licensed by various services. “With more streaming options than ever before, it can get a little overwhelming jumping from app to app to find what you’re looking for,” YouTube said at the time.
However, the Primetime Channels program has one major flaw. YouTube users can access its offerings only from the app’s Movie & TV tab. This makes it harder for users to find content and YouTube to add more services. With a redesign, YouTube aims to bring paid subscriptions to its homepage and play previews of shows automatically while also allowing creators to arrange their content in seasons.

Prime Video already offers a similar integration. Amazon’s platform offers more than 100 add-on subscription options in the US, including Apple TV+, which was added to the catalog last year.
Notably, the report arrives weeks after CEO Neil Mohan announced that TV had surpassed mobile to become the primary device for YouTube viewing in the US.
